More about the project

What is the social/environmental problem/issue that this project will address?
We believe passionately in quality, equality and inclusion. Our mission is to dismantle the barriers to artistic excellence so that learning-disabled and non-disabled artists can perform alongside each other as equals. It's more than drama about disability, it's professional theatre by disabled people. No other company tells stories like we do. Our world is diverse and it's important that audiences see professional actors with learning-disabilities on their stages. The funding of the arts has changed significantly over the past few years, and we need to actively look for new sources of income. Key to this will be introducing our work to a wider audience, and asking our audiences to help support us. Websites like this one prove a lot of people giving a little can make a massive difference to projects and organisations! However, you won't see a dry fundraising strategy on our desks. We're absolute believers in the power of drama, storytelling and entertainment to open doors, and we want you to feel proud of the work you help create by supporting us.
Can you give us some statistics on this problem?
tbc.
What is your solution?
We need to reach out to our audiences to ask for their support to help us create future projects and events. We appreciate that everyone is feeling the pinch these days, so whilst we'd welcome with big open arms (and jazz hands) any large donations, we also need to ask lots and lots of people to give us smaller amounts. An app allows us to reach a global audience; recent national TV coverage of Mind the Gap led to a flurry of enquiries from across the UK, and we have links to other organisations across the globe. People are interested in what we do once they hear about us, but we need new ways to reach those audiences and let them know we exist. Small but mighty, the pirate app has wide appeal and will spread the message about our work. Think of it as a door opening, every time someone downloads, plays with or shares our app. And we're ready to stick our head around the door offering a flask of tea and a slice of cake. (We like cake almost as much as we like pirates - almost).

Our track record

Previous acclaimed performances include Of Mice and Men, Don Quixote, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Stig, Irresistible and Boo, a completely new work inspired by the character of Boo Radley from Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird. We have received the Stage Award for Outstanding Achievement in Regional Theatre at the Barclays/TMA Awards for our adaptations of classic texts. We reach wide audiences; almost 10,000 people saw our award-winning adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice & Men which was performed 50 times at theatres and arts centres across the UK.
